Beta Technologies Aims High: Electric Aircraft Startup Targets $825 Million in IPO
Electric aviation is taking off—literally and financially. Vermont-based Beta Technologies, one of the leading names in electric aircraft innovation, has officially filed for an initial public offering (IPO) aiming to raise up to $825 million. The company has set its share price between $27 and $33, which could give it a valuation of around $7.2 billion if investors show strong interest.
Founded in 2017 by Kyle Clark, a Harvard-educated pilot and former professional hockey player, Beta Technologies stands out for its unconventional journey. Unlike most startups, the company has never taken venture capital funding. Instead, it raised $1.15 billion from major institutional investors such as Fidelity and the Qatar Investment Authority.
Despite a U.S. government shutdown, Beta went ahead with its IPO filing, supported by a new SEC guidance that allows companies to proceed with certain filings automatically after 20 days. This move signals the startup’s confidence and readiness to go public amid market uncertainty.
Adding to its momentum, Beta Technologies recently partnered with GE Aerospace to develop a hybrid-electric turbogenerator system for future aircraft. As part of the strategic deal, GE Aerospace will also invest $300 million and take a stake in Beta—marking a strong endorsement from a key player in the aviation industry.
With its innovative approach, strong investor backing, and strategic partnerships, Beta Technologies is poised to redefine the future of electric Aircraft. The company’s upcoming IPO could mark a major milestone not only for Beta but for the entire sustainable aviation sector.
