Valla Raises $2.7M to Make Legal Help Easier and More Affordable for Employees
Valla, a UK-based legal tech startup, has raised $2.7 million (approximately £2 million) in a seed funding round led by Ada Ventures, with participation from Active Partners, Portfolio Ventures, Techstart, and Resolution Foundation. The company aims to make legal recourse more accessible and affordable for employees dealing with workplace issues.
Founded in 2022 by Danae Shell, Valla helps workers navigate employment law by offering tools to collect evidence, generate legal documents, and access coaching from legal experts. More than 12,000 workers have used Valla’s platform to bring complaints and negotiate settlements with their employers.
Shell was motivated to build Valla after hearing countless stories of employees leaving jobs after facing unfair treatment, simply because legal action was too complex or expensive. She believed if people could file taxes on a phone, they should be able to handle legal issues digitally too.
Valla uses generative AI to assist users and coaches. The AI works like a virtual legal assistant, briefing experts, taking notes, setting reminders, and helping manage legal tasks smoothly.
With the new funding, Valla plans to expand its AI features, grow partnerships with unions and insurers, and explore new legal areas like small claims and tenancy disputes. The company is also eyeing global expansion, including markets in the U.S. and Europe.
