Expensya Founders Launch Thunder Code: New AI Startup Raises $9M in Seed Funding
In a bold return to entrepreneurship, Expensya co-founders Karim Jouini and Jihed Othmani have launched a new venture—Thunder Code, an AI-powered software testing startup that has already secured $9 million in seed funding.
Known for building Expensya into one of Africa’s most successful tech startups (reportedly acquired for over $120 million by Sweden’s Medius), the duo initially stepped away from startups. But the rise of generative AI reignited their passion.
Thunder Code uses intelligent AI agents to automate slow, manual software testing. These agents simulate QA processes, catch UI/UX bugs, and adapt with feedback. The company shipped its MVP in just six weeks and now serves clients in the U.S., Canada, France, and Tunisia, with plans to expand into mobile and API testing by 2025.
Backed by top investors including Silicon Badia, Jaango Capital, and Station F’s Roxanne Varza, Thunder Code aims to disrupt a software testing market expected to hit $100 billion by 2027.
The company has offices in Paris and Tunis and has an AI-first team strategy.
