From Lime to Uber: Your Guide to Free and Discounted Rides on Election Day
With Election Day approaching on November 5, 2024, millions of Americans are preparing to cast their ballots. However, getting to the polling stations can be a challenge for some. This year, several transportation companies have stepped up, offering free and Discounted Rides on Election Day to help voters get to the polls. Here’s everything you need to know about Election Day ride deals and discounts to ensure your voice is heard.
Micromobility: Lime, Bird, and Spin Offer Free Rides to Polling Stations
If you’re looking for a quick, eco-friendly way to reach your polling place, micromobility companies have got you covered. Lime is offering two free 30-minute rides for voters using the promo code VOTE2024 on Election Day. This offer is valid for trips to and from polling stations across the U.S.
In addition to Lime, Bird and Spin are part of the “Roll to the Polls” initiative, providing voters with two free rides each. Simply use the promo code RockTheVote2024 in the app to access your free rides. “We believe voting should be accessible to everyone,” a Lyft spokesperson shared, highlighting the importance of removing transportation barriers to voting.
Ride-Hailing Services: Discounts on Lyft and Uber
For those who prefer ride-hailing options, Lyft and Uber are offering substantial discounts to help you get to the polls.
- Lyft is giving voters 50% off their ride to the polling station, capped at $10, when they use the code VOTE24. The discount is also valid for Lyft’s bikeshare and scootershare services, including popular programs like Citi Bike.
- Uber is offering a similar deal, with a 50% discount (also capped at $10) for voters. Users simply need to select the “Go Vote!” option in the app to access the discount. Additionally, Uber is helping voters find their nearest polling station within the app.
Uber Eats is also joining in by providing a 25% discount on orders up to $15 with a minimum spend of $25. This offer is available from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. local time on November 6, perfect for those needing a late-night meal after casting their vote.
Car Rentals: Hertz Offers Free Day for Longer Rentals
If you’re planning a longer trip or need a car for multiple days, Hertz is offering a deal you don’t want to miss. Rent a car for two or more days between October 21 and November 5, and Hertz will give you one free day. Simply use promo code 211636 when booking. However, note that this offer excludes convertible, minivan, and large SUV rentals.
Navigation Help: Google Maps and Moovit Offer Polling Information
To help voters locate polling stations, Google Maps and Google Search are providing comprehensive information about in-person voting locations and ballot dropboxes. This feature, powered by the Voting Information Project, also includes information about polling station hours and available voting services.
Meanwhile, Moovit has integrated thousands of polling locations across 130 counties in 11 states into its app, allowing voters to find nearby polling places easily. Moovit also provides details on voter registration and transit agencies offering free rides on Election Day.
Public Transit: Free Rides Across the Nation
In many cities, public transit agencies are offering free rides to make voting more accessible. Cities like Detroit, Des Moines, and Durham are offering complimentary bus rides on Election Day, eliminating the cost barrier for public transportation users.
In Durham, Derek Bowens, director of the Durham County Board of Elections, stated, “Free bus rides all day on Election Day will most definitely encourage voter turnout.” He emphasized that removing transportation costs can significantly impact voter participation.
Make your voting experience stress-free by taking advantage of these Election Day transportation offers. Whether you’re hopping on a scooter, calling a ride-hail service, renting a car, or using public transit, there are options available to ensure everyone has a chance to make their voice heard on November 5.
