X Introduces Labels to Identify Parody Accounts for Better Transparency
Big news! X is rolling out labels for parody, satire and fan accounts! These labels will help prevent confusion and allow users to easily tell the difference between an official account and a parody account.
This solves the issue in the past where public figures or organizations have mistaken messages from parody accounts as real statements. Both the profile and individual posts will display the new labels prominently so you’ll know the content is meant to spoof or comment on actual entities.
How to Add the Label
Go to:
Settings and Privacy > Your Account > Account Information
Select the “Parody, commentary and fan account” option.
The platform describes these labels as a way to depict another person, group or organization for satire or commentary while following X’s rules.
Upcoming Changes
X will be making these labels required for parody accounts soon. This aligns with the platform’s authenticity policy which prohibits impersonation but allows parody and fan accounts if you follow the guidelines.
By doing this, X is showing its commitment to transparency and user trust and making sure parody content doesn’t mislead or confuse.
Stay tuned for updates as X rolls this out across the platform.
