US House Passes Republican Budget Bill with Huge Tax Cuts
The US House of Representatives has passed a House Budget Bill 2025 backed by Republicans and former President Donald Trump. The tax budget vote was 217-215, showing party divisions.
House Budget Highlights
- No tax on tips: Huge win for workers, tips are tax-free
- No taxes on overtime: Overtime pay is tax-free
- $4.5 trillion in tax cuts: Funded by spending cuts and increased national debt
- Medicaid cuts 2025: Cuts to government health programs, criticismed
- $100 billion for border security and military: Big on immigration enforcement and defense.
Republican Budget Opposed
The house passes budget bill despite fiscal hawks, Republican Tom Massie voted no because it didn’t cut enough spending. Democrats all voted no, saying tax cuts help the rich and cut Medicaid.
Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise worked hard to get votes, Trump even called undecided Republicans to ask for their support. The bill now goes to the Senate where it will be negotiated further.
With the budget vote today, the Republican House has advanced Trump’s 2025 economic plan. But the battle over spending and tax relief is far from over as the Senate considers its own budget resolution.
