TikTok Introduces New Controls for AI-Generated Content: What Users Need to Know
TikTok is taking a major step toward giving users more control over what shows up in their “For You” feed. As AI-generated videos continue to rise across social platforms, TikTok is now rolling out a new feature that lets you decide how much AI content you want to see from very little to a lot.
This update arrives at a time when competitors like Meta and OpenAI are pushing AI-only content feeds, making TikTok’s move an important shift toward user choice and transparency.
A New Slider for AI Content in Your Feed
The new AI-generated content (AIGC) control is built into TikTok’s “Manage Topics” tool. Previously, this feature let users adjust how often they see content categories like Dance, Sports, Food & Drinks, and more.
Now, “AI-generated content” becomes one more topic you can customize.
How it works:
-
Open Settings
-
Go to Content Preferences
-
Select Manage Topics
-
Move the AI-generated content slider to choose:
-
See less AI content
-
See more AI content
-
Keep it neutral
-
This gives users the freedom to curate their own TikTok experience without removing or replacing content entirely.
The update will roll out globally in the coming weeks.
Why TikTok Is Making This Change
AI-generated videos are exploding in popularity. Since the launch of OpenAI’s Sora, TikTok has seen a flood of realistic AI visuals—from recreated celebrity moments to historic recreations and imagined scenes.
With more creators using AI tools, TikTok wants to:
-
Increase transparency
-
Give users more control
-
Reduce confusion between real and AI-generated content
-
Improve content labeling across the platform
Invisible Watermarking: Better Labels for AI Content
Alongside the new content controls, TikTok is also upgrading how it labels AI-generated posts.
TikTok already uses:
-
C2PA’s Content Credentials (metadata that identifies AI content)
-
Creator-required labels for realistic AI videos
However, metadata can be removed when videos are edited or reuploaded elsewhere.
To fix this, TikTok is testing invisible watermarking a hidden watermark that only TikTok can detect.
What this means for users:
-
More reliable AI labels
-
Harder for creators to intentionally remove AI tags
-
Better transparency across reuploads
Invisible watermarks will be added to:
-
AI-generated content made with TikTok tools like AI Editor Pro
-
Content uploaded with C2PA metadata
Boosting Digital Awareness: TikTok’s $2 Million AI Literacy Fund
To help users understand AI better, TikTok is launching a $2 million AI literacy fund.
This fund will support experts and organizations including nonprofits like Girls Who Code—to create educational content about:
-
How AI works
-
How AI-generated content is made
-
Online safety and misinformation
-
How to identify AI-generated visuals
This initiative aims to encourage smarter, safer, and more responsible use of AI across the platform.
Why This Matters
As AI content becomes increasingly realistic, the line between real and synthetic visuals is getting thinner. Social platforms must adapt and TikTok’s new tools show a move toward stronger transparency and user empowerment.
With:
-
Adjustable AI content settings
-
Advanced watermarking
-
And a focus on AI literacy
TikTok is positioning itself as a platform that embraces AI innovation without compromising user trust.
