Spotify Launches Custom Transitions for Playlists: Mix Like a DJ with Ease
Spotify has unveiled a brand-new feature that takes playlist creation to the next level — custom transitions. This update allows Premium subscribers to add seamless, professional-style transitions between tracks, giving playlists a DJ-like flow without needing advanced audio skills.
With the new Mix option in the toolbar, users can automatically add transitions or choose from preset styles like fade, rise, and blend. For those who want more control, Spotify lets you tweak settings such as volume, EQ, and effects, while displaying waveform, key, and beats per minute (BPM) data to make mixing easier, even for beginners.
Nearly 9 billion playlists have been created on Spotify so far, and this feature is designed to empower music lovers to craft more personalized listening experiences. Premium users can also save and share mixes, invite friends to collaborate, and even switch between traditional and mixed playlists with a simple toggle.
The rollout positions Spotify as a strong competitor to Apple Music’s upcoming AutoMix, giving users the tools to mix tracks for parties, workouts, or everyday listening. The feature works best with genres like house and techno, which naturally blend together.
Custom transitions are available now for most Premium subscribers worldwide (with APAC markets to follow soon). Simply update your Spotify iOS app to start mixing your playlists like a pro.
