Latent Labs Launches LatentX: Web-Based AI Model Revolutionizing Protein Design
Latent Labs, the AI biotech startup that raised $50 million just six months ago, has officially launched LatentX—a revolutionary web-based AI model that enables users to design novel proteins directly from their browser.
At the heart of Latent Labs’ mission is democratizing protein design. With LatentX, academic researchers, biotech startups, and pharmaceutical companies can now generate new proteins using natural language—no advanced lab setup required.
Unlike AlphaFold, which predicts protein structures, LatentX takes it a step further by creating entirely new proteins, including nanobodies and antibodies with precise atomic-level designs. This leap forward has massive implications for accelerating drug discovery and developing next-gen therapeutics.
According to CEO Simon Kohl, former DeepMind scientist and AlphaFold team co-lead, LatentX has achieved state-of-the-art (SOTA) performance in lab testing, showing high viability rates for its AI-designed proteins.
Latent Labs follows a unique model: instead of keeping discoveries in-house like DeepMind spinouts or companies like Xaira and Recursion, it licenses LatentX to external organizations. This means any institution—big or small—can leverage the power of AI for biological breakthroughs without needing their own AI infrastructure.
Currently free to use, LatentX will soon include premium features as the platform evolves.
With backing from notable names like Radical Ventures, Google’s Jeff Dean, and Anthropic’s Dario Amodei, Latent Labs is positioning itself as a game-changer in AI-driven biotechnology.
The future of protein engineering is now accessible, scalable, and incredibly powerful—thanks to LatentX.
