How TikTok’s New Features Support Songwriters’ Success: Empowering Music Creators
TikTok is once again proving its value beyond viral dances and trends—this time by introducing new tools tailored for songwriters. In a move that supports creative professionals and independent artists, It has rolled out beta features that allow songwriters to showcase their work and build visibility directly on their profiles.
These new additions include a “Songwriter” label and a dedicated tab where users can highlight their musical contributions. While access is currently limited to select publishing partners and creators, TikTok has launched a waitlist for others looking to join the program.
Why does this matter for startups in the music and creator economy?
Because visibility equals opportunity. TikTok surveyed over 870 songwriters and found that over half use social media—particularly TikTok—to build their brand. As a result, we developed the new features, which create monetization pathways and elevate songwriter profiles.
TikTok’s commitment to music creators follows a broader trend seen across platforms. Spotify and Tidal have long supported songwriters, with Tidal even offering royalty tracking tools. Though TikTok shut down its TikTok Music streaming service, it remains a top discovery platform for music.
For founders and startups in the creator economy, this move is a reminder of how tech platforms are evolving to support niche talent. If your startup operates in music tech, artist development, or social media innovation, now is the time to watch how TikTok’s songwriting features reshape content monetization and audience engagement.
