UnitedHealth Removes DEI from Website After Policy Shifts

UnitedHealth Group has taken down most of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) content from its website, removing dedicated sections, blog posts and career page initiatives. This follows a trend of companies scaling back DEI programs in the face of increasing scrutiny and political pressure.
UnitedHealth’s Website Changes
Several UnitedHealth DEI pages have been taken down or are now returning an error. The company’s career page no longer has a diversity initiatives section, and its 2022 blog post about its VP of DEI isn’t there anymore.
It’s unclear if this is a policy change or just a rebranding, but UnitedHealth hasn’t commented on the removal. Spokesperson Tyler Mason didn’t respond to media requests.
A Growing Trend in the Corporate World
UnitedHealth’s move is part of a broader corporate retreat from DEI policies, especially since federal scrutiny has increased. Recent executive orders from the Trump administration have targeted DEI programs, instructing government agencies to investigate and in some cases eliminate DEI initiatives. The Justice Department, led by Attorney General Pam Bondi, is actively going after companies that receive federal funding to ensure compliance with these directives.
Several big tech companies, including Google and OpenAI, have already made similar moves, removing DEI content from their platforms. UnitedHealth’s changes seem to be part of this trend.
New Branding: ‘Culture of Belonging’
In place of the removed DEI content, UnitedHealth has created a new page called “Culture of Belonging.” The new page has less specific language and omits previous references to diversity recruitment efforts, employee resource groups and DEI university programs.
UnitedHealth’s website since the Change Healthcare ransomware attack last year. The changes to DEI content were observed in real time on Wednesday morning through automated web page tracking tools.
What This Means for the Future of DEI
The removal of public DEI commitments means companies may still have internal DEI policies but are taking a more cautious approach in response to external pressure. For now, UnitedHealth has not clarified its stance, leaving employees, job seekers. And industry analysts speculating about the company’s long-term commitment to diversity and inclusion.
