Waymo Expands to Dallas with Avis Managing Robotaxi Fleet
Alphabet-owned autonomous driving tech company Waymo is bringing its robotaxi service to Dallas in 2025—and this time, it’s partnering with Avis Budget Group to manage its all-electric Jaguar I-Pace fleet.
This new collaboration marks the first time Waymo has teamed up with a rental car company for fleet operations. Avis will oversee vehicle charging, maintenance, and general depot operations, enabling Waymo to scale its autonomous service faster and more efficiently. Users will be able to book rides through the Waymo app, offering seamless access to self-driving transportation.
This move follows Waymo’s earlier collaborations with Uber in Austin and Atlanta, and Moove in Phoenix. However, the Avis partnership could extend to other cities, with both companies expressing intent to grow their joint footprint over time.
Waymo has already started mapping and testing its vehicles in Dallas, and plans to gradually move toward fully autonomous operations. Although the exact launch date remains undisclosed, the initial fleet is expected to grow into hundreds of vehicles.
For Avis, this partnership signals a strategic shift—from a traditional car rental brand to a key player in the mobility ecosystem.
Currently, Waymo operates in Austin, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Phoenix, and the San Francisco Bay Area, and plans to launch in Washington, D.C., and Miami next.
