Meta Acquires Voice AI Startup Play AI to Boost Audio Innovation

Meta is ramping up its AI ambitions with the acquisition of Play AI, a voice technology startup known for creating ultra-realistic, human-sounding voices using artificial intelligence.

As confirmed by a Meta spokesperson and first reported by Bloomberg, the entire Play AI team will be joining Meta next week. An internal memo reportedly stated that Play AI’s expertise in natural voice generation and its easy-to-use voice creation platform aligns perfectly with Meta’s future plans for AI Characters, Meta AI, audio content creation, and even wearables.

This move comes as Meta continues to aggressively invest in the AI ecosystem, poaching top talent from OpenAI and partnering with Scale AI. Notably, Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang is now leading Meta’s new superintelligence division, highlighting the company’s focus on next-generation AI solutions.

While the financial details of the deal were not disclosed, the strategic value is clear. With the rise of voice-first experiences across platforms, Meta is strengthening its position by acquiring cutting-edge voice capabilities.

This acquisition shows how major tech players are betting big on voice AI startups, signaling massive opportunities in AI-driven audio content and personalized digital assistants.
