China Considers Elon Musk for TikTok US Acquisition Amid Legal Uncertainty
So it seems Chinese officials are considering ByteDance selling TikTok’s US operations to Elon Musk. This is according to reports as the Supreme Court is about to decide the fate of TikTok in the US on January 19th following a law that could ban the app.
China reportedly wants TikTok to stay under ByteDance’s control but Bloomberg says selling TikTok’s US division to Musk’s X platform is part of the plan to navigate the incoming Trump administration. If this happens X would get 170 million US users and massive ad revenue.
However, TikTok’s spokesperson dismissed these claims as “pure fiction” in a statement to Variety. The extent to which ByteDance or TikTok is aware of these discussions remains unclear, reigniting concerns about China’s influence over the platform.
This news underscores the ongoing complexities surrounding TikTok’s future in the U.S., as debates about ownership and regulatory control continue.
